Does the new version of Global Mapper export MrSIDs to other MrSIDs? We are having issues printing sids using ArcMAP without them being pixelated.

Can you explain the difference between jpg2000 and mrsid?

Global Mapper does not have the ability to generate new MrSID files. You can crop your MrSID files to other formats that offer similar compression though, like ECW and JPEG2000.

ECW, JPEG2000, and MrSID all use (I think) wavelet-based compression which results in excellent compression of real world pictures, like imagery. The main differences are that JPEG2000 is an open standard and no license fees are required to create new JPEG2000 files. ECW is also pretty open, but not quite to the degree of JPEG2000, and MrSID is very proprietary and protected.

Let me know if I can be of further assistance.

    Thanks,

    Mike
