Rectifying Geologic Cross-Section

Hi,
I was wondering if anyone has advice on rectifying a geologic cross-section. It only has horizontal and vertical scales, i.e. 700 m wide and 10 m deep. I'd like to be able to draw polygons around the various geologic units so that I could determine their area and relative proportions across the section.
Is this possible in Global Mapper? If so any tips on how to go about it would be greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Chris.

Chris,
You could just choose any linear projection when rectifying and just get the units set correctly so the linear distances are correct. So if you selected 2 points when rectifying to set the meters across and vertically and their associated pixel location, you could then calculate areas and distances with the Measure Tool. You could right-click in the Measure Tool to specify to use grid distances so you don't have to worry about incorrect great-circle measurements being done.
Thanks,
Mike
