Global Mapper Version 11

Google Ozi

I have just been made aware of a neat application that can be added to your mapping toolbox, Google Ozi.

Google Ozi allows you to easily download Google Maps images and save them to large JPG or TIFF files with an Ozi .map file for calibration.  This file than can be easily loaded for display into Global Mapper.    I have created a short demonstration below see the link below (no audio).

The application is available at http://www.zubak.sk/GoogleOzi/

Enjoy and let me know what you think of Google Ozi!

LizardTech

For Immeadiate Release:

LizardTech, a division of Celartem Inc. and a provider of software solutions for managing and distributing geospatial content, announced the integration of its MrSID Generation 4 (MG4) SDK into Global Mapper version 11.01.

Until recently, Global Mapper's customers were not able to load point cloud datasets that were compressed to MrSID Generation 4 using LiDAR Compressor into Global Mapper. However, with the addition of support for MG4 in Global Mapper version 11.01 users can load point cloud datasets compressed to MrSID Generation 4 for use in volumetric analysis, contour generation, and visualization.

"Adding MG4 integration to the latest version of Global Mapper is just another step to ensure that our customers have as many mapping tools possible at their fingertips," said Mike Childs, Global Mapper Software LLC. "Based on user feedback, we believe this integration with LizardTech will bring added value to our customers."

"LizardTech's goal is to give customers tools for using their point cloud data compressed with LiDAR Compressor in the applications they use every day," said Jon Skiffington, LizardTech's director of marketing. "Many of our customers use Global Mapper, but were not able to use it with MrSID files created in LiDAR Compressor. Now our customers can easily load point cloud datasets compressed to MrSID Generation 4 into Global Mapper."

Numerous significant enhancements and bug fixes have been made to Global Mapper for this release. The most significant changes are described below:

  • The 3D Viewer now supports displaying 3D vector features in space above or below the terrain surface. You can also extrude 3D area features to create building-like displays.
  •  Added new GPS menu option to send any loaded data map directly to a compatible Garmin GPS device, such as a Colorado or Oregon handheld, for display as a raster map on the unit. This allows display of anything, including imagery, on compatible Garmin GPS devices!
  • Added support for creating buffer areas some fixed distance around selected area and line features. This option is available from the Advanced Feature Creation submenu of the right-click menu in the Digitizer Tool.
  • Updated map layout to support adding text anywhere on the map.
  • Allowing sorting search results by any attribute rather than just the name.
  • Added support for controlling at what zoom levels a map layer will appear, similar to the functionality available with a map catalog. You can configure this by right-clicking on a layer in the Control Center and selecting the new option to setup what zoom levels a map will display at.

All of the other numerous changes are listed in the What's New document that is displayed during installation.

You folks are fantastic! I’ve been doing GIS for 17 years and this is the most valuable and much-needed program I’ve used in years. Believe me, I’ve lived through the years of frustration over not being able to do this with conventional tools... THANK YOU !! - GIS Consultant
It is fantastic application with beautiful interface. I enjoy using it, and recommend it to anybody who has his own business- Ron Radzieta
I work for a small engineering firm and operate as a one man GIS department. Your product is completely changing the way that I create maps. Before I did not have the flexibility to modify many of the datasets that we use. Thank you for a well designed product.- Andrew Stroud
Global Mapper is super easy to use with so many great features! I’m not a GIS expert but frequently need to work with topo maps, DEMs, and ortho-images. GlobalMapper does everything I ever need to do. Keep up the excellent work.- Mark Kuhl
Amazing! I own a lot of software and have produced software in the past, but I have never come across anyone who upgrades as often as you do. Well done. This is like the wonderful early days of personal computers, before the marketing men got a choke-hold on the industry. I love your software and I respect your passion to make it the best reader around.- Ken Butti
